Starting a Marine/Reef Aquarium

Explanation of the nitrogen cycle, necessary to start an aquarium. Here are the different steps to follow to start a marine/reef aquarium
 
 
- Make sea water with reverse osmosis water and salt.

First put fresh water (osmosis) in the aquarium, start the filtration so that the water is stirred. - Let it run for 24 hours
- Insert an organic element (a mussel or a piece of fish from the fishmonger).

Do one test per day (may last 1 or 2 weeks before appearing)

- Continue to monitor nitrites. All of a sudden they will start to go down. When you have none left at all, you can start introducing the animals. Be careful, do not leave animals without animals for too long after the reduction in nitrites because if you do not reintroduce organic matter, the bacterial population will decline. With the animals inside, it's the food you're going to distribute that will maintain this bacterial population. If you don't introduce animals right away, put some mussel or fish still in (a little, much less than when you started).
Then you will have to continue to monitor the nitrites, more and more spaced out (you will know your aquarium and how quickly they come back, if they come back, in this case add bacteria). Also monitor nitrates and phosphates, and if you exceed 0.5 mg / l of phosphates and or 10mg / l of nitrates, put bacteria. If you are unable to lower them, it is because either you are feeding too much, or you have too large a population, or an element of the filtration is poorly sized (live stones, skimmer)
Do regular water changes (10% per month or more).
