Waterproof portable LDO oximeter, with HI764113 optical O2/°C probe, Quick DIN connector, 4 m cable
The optical probe HI764113 is based on the extinction of luminescence of an oxygen-sensitive luminophore. The measurement principle involves an inert platinum luminophore, whose luminescence is triggered by a blue LED (known as the excitation diode) and a red LED that serves as a reference element. The emission of blue light by the blue LED initiates luminescence, causing the electrons in the luminophore to increase significantly in energy level, which then rapidly decreases again over a few microseconds, emitting the lost energy in the form of red light.
Oxygen molecules in contact with the luminophore absorb the electrons' energy, thereby reducing the intensity and duration of the emitted red light. This extinction phenomenon is measured by the photodetector and converted, using the reference red LED, into dissolved oxygen concentrations. The faster the extinction, the higher the dissolved oxygen concentration. In summary, oxygen measurement by luminescence is a physical measurement based on a time-based assessment.
